The Company

First Foundation Serves Customers Across Multiple US Regional Markets

Established in 2008, First Foundation has evolved into a full-service regional bank with over 500 employees serving communities across five states dedicated to a fiduciary standard of care for their customers.

The Challenge

Optimizing Performance and Availability for a Geographically Distributed Organization

Thanks to steady growth and a rapidly changing technology vendor environment, First Foundation faced a need to evolve their IT infrastructure. It was imperitive to meet a mix of availability, business continuity, and cost objectives while utilizing best-of-breed solutions to minimize the risk of vendor lock-in.

I was surprised to discover that storage vendors we evaluated did not offer Active-Active real-time replication to maintain availability, performance and support our requirements like Peer.

Solution

Active-Active Real-time Replication for Enterprise Availability and Cost Savings

Initially, the company chose PeerGFS to sync network shares, user docs and roaming profile data from the primary datacenter in Irvine, CA to a DR focused datacenter in Las Vegas. Over time, they upgraded to NetApp for enterprise storage, moved from VMWare to Nutanix for server virtualization, added Citrix for VDI along with Liquidware to streamline user management.

Additionally, First Foundation expanded to a second production datacenter in Dallas and retired their Las Vegas DR site by deploying NC2 on Azure.

Results

Proven Flexibility Drives Operational Efficiency and Eliminates Vendor Lock-in

PeerGFS played a key role in the company’s transition to a modern hybrid architecture that seamlessly replicates user and application data across edge locations, multiple datacenters and cloud infrastructure to ensure enterprise high availability and faster performance.
